Privacy Policy
1. Who this covers
This policy applies to the HammerWX Windows desktop application, the website at hammerwx.com (including the download / update pages), and related support we provide by email.
2. Information we collect
A. Stored only on your computer (not uploaded by us)
- License key — saved under your Windows user profile so you stay activated.
- Machine identifier — used only if a license is bound to a specific PC; shown so you can request a locked key.
- App settings — preferences such as display options, update feed URL, and chaser chat display name.
- Radar / weather cache — temporary files to improve performance.
- Crash reports — written locally if the app fails; we do not automatically upload them.
B. Network activity started by the app
- Public weather data — the app downloads radar and related weather products from public Internet sources (for example NEXRAD / Unidata and similar feeds). Those providers may see standard connection data (IP address, time, requested files) under their own policies.
- Software updates — the app may check
https://hammerwx.com/desktop/updates/for a newer version (version number and release notes). Our web server may log ordinary HTTP request data (IP address, user agent, time, URL). - Optional local AI — if you enable a local Ollama (or similar) endpoint, requests go to the address you configure (often on your own PC). We do not operate that service.
C. Chaser chat (optional)
If you use Chaser chat, the app may exchange messages, a display name, and optional location information with other HammerWX users on the same local network (peer-to-peer / LAN). That traffic is intended for nearby devices; it is not a cloud chat service we host. Other users on the same network who run the feature may see the name and data you share.
D. Website visitors
- When you visit hammerwx.com, our hosting / web server may collect standard technical logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamps) for security, reliability, and basic traffic understanding.
- We do not use advertising trackers or sell browsing profiles.
E. Purchases and support
- If you buy a license or email us for support, we receive the information you provide (for example name, email address, payment confirmation from the processor, machine ID if you send it for a PC-locked license, and the content of your messages).
- Payment card details are handled by the payment provider you use; we do not store full card numbers in the desktop app.
3. How we use information
- Provide and improve the HammerWX application and website
- Activate and honor software licenses
- Deliver update checks and downloadable installers
- Respond to support requests
- Secure our systems and prevent abuse
- Comply with law when required
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Sharing
We share information only when needed to run the product, for example:
- Infrastructure providers — web hosting, DNS, and email that process data on our behalf
- Payment processors — if you purchase a license through them
- Weather data providers — your device connects directly to public weather sources as described above
- Legal requirements — if required by law or to protect rights and safety
5. Data retention
- Data on your PC remains until you delete the app data, uninstall, or clear those files.
- Server logs are kept only as long as reasonably needed for security and operations (typically a limited rolling period).
- Support emails and license records are kept as long as needed to provide the product and meet legal/accounting needs.
6. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate for a small independent software product (including HTTPS for our website and signed installers when published that way). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
7. Children
HammerWX is a professional / enthusiast weather tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
8. Your choices
- Delete local data under
%LocalAppData%\HammerWX(Windows) to remove license, settings, cache, and crash files on that PC. - Turn off optional features (such as Chaser chat) in the app.
- Email us to request correction or deletion of support/license records we hold, subject to legal retention needs.
9. International users
The app and website may be used from outside the United States. By using them, you understand that processing may occur in the United States (for example on our hosting infrastructure) and in the regions of the public data providers the app contacts.
10. Microsoft Store
If you install HammerWX from the Microsoft Store, Microsoft’s terms and privacy policy also apply to Store account activity, payments handled by Microsoft, and Store analytics that Microsoft may collect as platform operator. This policy describes our practices for the HammerWX app and hammerwx.com.
11. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Effective date” at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the app or site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
